Open House

We hold an Open House almost every Sunday for people to come and meet the dogs. We sometimes find we are shorthanded on three day weekends because our volunteers have family obligations or need to get away. We ask you call ahead and check if we will be open on holiday weekends. When we know we will not be open on a particular weekend we will post it here.

The hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

When you arrive, you will first be interviewed by one of our members or volunteers. You should have already completed an adoption application so the interviewer will zero in on any concerns we may have, and work on trying to find the best match between you and our available dogs.

We will usually show you several dogs that fit within the parameters you are seeking and invite you to spend some one-on-one time with each dog. You can walk the dog around, play with it, try a little obedience work--whatever you like. If you have brought your children and other dogs with you

When you have made your selection (and provided your application is approved) you will be asked to complete our adoption contract and make your adoption donation. We will mutually agree on a date by which you will take your new dog to your vet for an initial examination and for you to purchase heartworm preventive. If your vet has any questions we can put them in touch with our rescue vet.

We will give you a file where we have recorded the veterinary care we have provided to your new dog. The folder also includes your new dog's rabies vaccination certificate and tag, a copy of the adoption contract, your dog's microchip number, and any other details we need to tell you. Weather and staffing permitting, we will give your new dog a bath and trim his nails.

You can them take your new dog home.

  • Come to Doberman Rescue on Sunday, between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.
  • Bring a collar and leash.
  • Bring your drivers license or other identification.
  • Bring a check or cash for your adoption donation.
  • Know the name of your vet clinic and its telephone number. You will need to put it on the adoption contract.
  • This is very important. If you have other pets that can travel, especially dogs, please bring them so they can help pick out your new dog.
  • If you have children, please bring them so you can assess how the dog will interact with them.
  • We suggest you plan to stop at PetsMart or Petco on your way home to buy food and to enjoy your new dog's company in the store. Your dog might point out a few toys or chewies he would enjoy.
  • Take your new dog home. Please bring a leash and collar so you don't need to borrow one of ours.
