Open House

We hold an Open House every Sunday except for Christmas and New Years for people to come and meet the dogs.

The hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

When you arrive, you will first be interviewed by one of our members or volunteers. You should have already completed an adoption application so the interviewer will zero in on any concerns we may have, and work on trying to find the best match between you and our available dogs.

We will usually show you several dogs that fit within the parameters you are seeking and invite you to spend some one-on-one time with each dog. You can walk the dog around, play with it, try a little obedience work--whatever you like. If you have brought your children and other dogs with you, they will have plenty of time to interact.

Provided your application has already been approved, and subject to the approval of our volunteers, when you have made your selection you will be asked to complete our adoption contract and pay your adoption fee. We will tell you when your dog last was given heartworm preventive (usually the fiorst of the month) so you will know the date by which you will take your new dog to your vet for an initial examination and for you to purchase heartworm preventive. If your vet has any questions we can put them in touch with our rescue vet.

We will give you a file where we have recorded the veterinary care we have provided to your new dog. The folder also includes your new dog's rabies vaccination certificate and tag, a copy of the adoption contract, your dog's microchip number, and any other details we need to tell you. Weather and staffing permitting, we will give your new dog a bath and trim his nails.

You can then take your new dog home.

Open House Checklist

  • Fill out an application and wait to hear from our screener.
  • Come to Doberman Rescue on Sunday, between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.
  • Bring a collar and leash.
  • Bring your drivers license or other identification.
  • Bring a check, cash, debit card, or credit card to pay for your dog's adoption fee.
  • This is very important. If you have other pets that can travel, especially dogs, please bring them so they can help pick out your new dog.
  • If you have children, please bring them so you can assess how the dog will interact with them and vice versa.
  • We suggest you plan to stop at PetsMart or Petco on your way home to buy food and to enjoy your new dog's company in the store. Your dog might point out a few toys or chewies he would enjoy.
  • Take your new dog home.
